Black Magazine Inspired Outfit

This outfit was inspired by a new favorite magazine of mine called Black Magazine 
(a New Zealand fashion magazine). 

I might have forgotten to mention that this jean levi's jacket got passed on to me a week or so ago and it was my father-in-laws preference of choice to go party in back in the day. Apparently this piece is not short of 15 years old... 

Recipe | Vanilla Cupcakes

VANILLA CUPCAKE RECIPE

Nothing better than a night in baking, am I right? I am always on the look out for the quickest and easiest recipe as I don't enjoy getting technical when it comes to baking. They are scrummy and oh so fluffy.

Ingredients:

225g soft butter

225g caster sugar 

225g self-raising flour 

1 tsp baking powder 

4 eggs 

1 tsp vanilla essence

1. Preheat oven to 175C. Place 18 paper baking cases in muffin tins.

2. Place all the ingredients in a medium bowl and beat with an electric whisk until smooth 

    and pale, about 2 to 3 minutes.

3. Spoon the mixture into the cases. Bake for 20min.

4. Remove the tins from the oven and cool for 5 min. Then remove the cupcakes and 

    cool on a rack.

5. Use a piping bag to ice cupcakes.

Butter cream Icing Ingredients:

110g soft butter
1/2 tsp red food coloring
110g icing sugar

1. For plain butter cream, beat 110g butter until soft, then beat in 110g icing sugar.

2. Add a half a teaspoon of vanilla essence and half a teaspoon of red food coloring.

Enjoy.

Event | Art Deco Weekend in Napier

Last Saturday we attended the Ar Deco Festival in Napier, Hawks Bay, New Zealand. Napier is known as one of the most famous Art Deco hubs in the world.  

It felt like taking a step back in time to a more simpler fancier type of decade. There where old cars, planes and people dancing in the streets. This festival takes place once a year and is a gathering you don't want to miss.

What the heng, one more day to go till Valentine's and yet I am blogging about all these amazing things and still have absolutely NO IDEA of what to do. Actually that is a lie, I did think of making heart shaped meringues this afternoon but as you would have assumed I got nowhere and ended up going for a walk with my husband Mike instead haha, useless..

It's just so crazy how my week seemed completely dead, and then all of a sudden we have a wedding to attend, friends coming up to stay the weekend and a photoshoot I need to finish...grrr I guess when you procrastinate you catch yourself watching The Ellen Show instead of getting on with work!

We are kicking of our first post of Valentine's day DIY projects by featuring a tutorial by Funky Time. As you might know, I really LOVE Valentine's day for some reason. Not just because it's about gifts, but it's a time where the wold can celebrate love. If you celebrate Independence Day, Waitangi Day, Australian Day or whatever you don't really have an excuse not to celebrate Valentine's day. 

Maybe you think that you might not have a special somebody to celebrate with? Or you might be low on cash? It's time to maybe surprise your neighbor or friend with a batch of cookies or pick a friend some flowers? And if you are low on cash - make something!

Events | The Winery Tour

Event: The Classic Hits Winery Tour 2013

New Zealand has awesome musicians and The Classic Hits Winery Tour sure gave us a dose of the very best our country has to offer. The line up boasted such acts as Fat Freddie's Drop, Anika, Boh & Hollie. The Church Road was the perfect venue, and we where lucky enough to have had some pretty awesome weather which made for one heck of a party!

Fat Freddie's Drop really got the crowd going! Not to mention Anike, Boh & Hollie who brought their urban roots with them on this tour. These three sure have a sense of humor and it truly shined in between their soulful performances. 

Mike and I scoffed our guts out on some chips, lollies and beer while dancing amongst the crowd and pretty lights. It was definitely a memorable experience! Make sure not to miss this if it comes your way and get your tickets early.

Over the weekend me and mike got a bit more familiar with our surrounds in Hawke's Bay and went exploring into the woods. We had an outdoorsy day and went for a swim in the river and ate ice cream until we couldn't anymore. 

I also can't believe it's February already. The days are going by so fast. I have a few things up my sleeve for February regarding attending events and making the most of my summer here. And by making the most of my summer I mean listening to some awesome local music at the Winery Tour Concert on Wednesday (update to come soon).
